This is the uodate for the article;
Ok, so this EF councillor rings me on Friday, whilst I’m at school and proceeds to hook into me about the article. When I try to defend myself she cuts me off and says ‘you’re being very rude’. So I don’t say anything. She continues to tear into me, making claims that she clearly does not understad, ie ‘I don’t think Australians would appreciate if someone wrote an article like this about them’ (clearly she’s never dealt with Australians or seen any Australian program before). I’m placed on a verbal warning for being culturaly insensitive (let’s ignore the fact that EF is being culturally insensitive of my culture and infringing on my right to freedom of speech). After she has made me feel as if my opinion does not matter at all, that clearly defending myself is useless and that the conversation is entirely one-sided she has the nerve to say ‘The article was very angry. Is there anything wrong?’ EF are such noobs. I let this question hang in the air for awhile, allowing silence to ensue before I finally replied with ‘no’ said goodbye and hung up. What I really wanted to do was slam the phone on her half way through her ranting, but mum and dad raised me to have respect, so I sat there and took it, in the middle of a crowded office with students and teachers everywhere.
Other than the article, the week was not entirely uneventful. Saturday Louisa moved in with us, she can’t stand her family anymore, there’s just too many problems. I’m happy to have her here and I know it’s easier for her as she has someone to talk to that understands. Saturday was also the day we both went to the Women’s Self Defence Class. We learnt how to escape from a choke hold, bear hug and grab (both from the back and front), how to roll someone off of us, fight from the ground and some basic kicks and punches. I had so much fun. It was exhilirating and for someone that likes to be in control, this was perfect. I’m fast and my punches are strong. Martial arts is definetly something I would like to explore and practice. I just have to decide which style is best for me. Any suggestions?
After the course Louisa and I went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner. It’s an American steakhouse with an Aussie theme. The food was pretty good, I had lamb, and they even offered Australian alcohol (Jacob’s Creek, Tooheys and Fosters to name a few). Louisa knew the hostess from school so we managed to aquire some menus and by sweet talking the waitress with a toy koala we also got our hands on a pin each.
Sunday, Pavel, Louisa and myself spent the majority of the day just walking around. This has to be one of the better weekends I’ve had, and the whole time I was away from this place.
Funny how you’re expected to obey their laws to the letter, but the moment you exercise freedom of speech it becomes painfully obvious you’re not an American.
Anyway, I say you learn any martial art where you can learn to knife fight. I keep asking Kurt or Daniel to teach me how to properly, but they never do
It’s because you’d actually stab someone.
Agreed with Andrew here. You’re evil Ryley.
lol. I’d love to learn to fight with weapons, but firstly perhaps I will learn self defence without them.
Haha, sounds like you’re not the only one who is having shit with the EF and families.
This company needs a good slap to the face. A good hard slap. Maybe you can unleash some new found self defence?
Sounds like things are kinda settling down for you though?
Are you still looking to come back A.S.A.P.?
Hope you’re not having too much hassles over there. Miss youuuuu! xo.
There are a lot of students having problems with EF.
hehehe. It won’t be a slap, but a broken nose.
Things are only good here when I’m not at Lynn’s or surrounded by her family. Really they are good people, but I just can’t stand this anymore.
Well the most common martial arts around here are Taekwondo, focuses on kick’s and leg work, Judo, rolling on the ground, and Karate, which has more emphasis on upper body work then Taekwondo (well there are different styles of these basic principles). If you’re looking to take it up keep in mind that when you start out you’ll be surrounded by either little kids or old people. By the time you advance you’ll have a good mix of more then one style because of the experienced people you’ll meet.
There’s also a really good Muay Thai course in Rockingham that’ll make you feel the burn. Although I haven’t been there in a while :s.
Whilst my leg muscles are the strongest…I liked the upper body work…
What’s Muay Tai?
Muay Tai is sort of what Thai boxers do, I believe. From what I’ve heard (so be forewarned that I may be wrong) it’s really intensive and is sort of like boxing but with kicking as well. Supposedly you can really do a lot of quick (although not lacking in) damage, although it certainly doesn’t let down on the defence side either, as one might think. Also I think there isn’t a lot of piss-farting around like you see in regular boxing either… so yeah, don’t take my word on it though, if it sounds like you’re cup of kick-ass maybe try… google or something xP hahaha
that wouldn’t involve wearing gloves would it? I kind of liked the feeling of beating the shit out of the bag and feeling every bit of it.
Nah, only boxing has gloves. BUT if you go into competition they make you were gloves. For safety reasons. But in training it’s usualy without gloves to condition your body
lol love the use of the phrase “feel the burn” not many ppl can pull it off. I read your article Ashayla and it so wasn’t offensive, sure you called them fat and lazy but they would be bombarded with those facts every other day not just from your article, sounds like EF needs to pull the stick out of their arse and lighten up. im glad you’re coming home, try not to catch that swine flu though
Did I actually say that?
what about swine flu or coming home? lol its good you have someone there who can relate to you but i have to say its sounding like a pretty crowded house now, i hope its big enough, is it? i learnt judo and jujitsu or how every the hell u spell it, it was weird, although i do enjoy a good combat class, it gets ur blood pumping, u will “feel the burn” and you’ll burn a lot of calories.
don’t get swine flu shay.
you could just show the EF a picture of me and it would eternally scar them. I’m sure the sight of me would be like a good blow to the head.
and tell Louisa I love her on account of her being nice and normal and relatable.
=D
miss you!
<3
nah ashayla you didnt say “feel the burn” kurt did… but feel free to use it, any idea when you’re gonna be getting back?
no idea yet
First off, high five for calling the EF noobs xD epic.
Anyway, secondly, I must comment on your tolerance of steel (does that work? aha, you know what I mean
) with the EF and the phone call, I don’t think I could’ve been that polite for so long, especially when they were being such inconsiderate pri—mitive people. :L
At least you have Louisa now though, someone to finally engage in normal and mutually accepting conversation must be great! I’m really happy for you!
I hope things continue to improve for you, can’t wait to see you again.
Tommo xoxoxo
(P.S. I’m thinking of having a child when I grow older and naming them Cornelius. Thoughts?)
Make sure you make his middle name Collins
So it can be Corny Collins (with the latest, greatest – Baltimore sound)
Cornelius? Umm…maybe not….sounds kind of….old? Pro-England? Elitist?
I bet you could come up with something better….then again, Corny would be an awesome knickname.
omg, CORNY COBB. AHAHAHA.
